Climate change is one of the main challenges our planet is facing and its effects became extremely visible to all. Transport accounts for a quarter of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions and its share continues to grow.
Cycling has a major role to play in a sustainable transport strategy as It helps tackle congestion and local air pollution. Almost a quarter of 23% of urban car trips are less than 3 kilometres, a distance that is easily cycled in under 20 minutes.
The RIDE&SMILE project aims to foster the development of active European citizens who are aware of the relevance of their individual choices as triggers of change, by introducing in the daily lives of pupils, teachers and families the bicycle as a transport mode to travel to school.
Training resources will be created to meet the teaching needs of the schools across the curriculum, engaging pupils in science, environment, geography, English language and citizenship education.
